2022 New PMI Talent Triangle Evolution
In 2015, PMI (Project Management Institut) has introduced the Talent Triangle®. Earlier this year, 2022, PMI has released the new wording for the PMI Talent Triangle to reflect the constant evolution of project manager careers.
The new wording evolution will be applied later this year, 2022. The shift in the Talent Triangle reflects the fast pace of changes in the Project Management field. Project managers can navigate smoothly through complex business environments with well-established solid skillsets.
Since new technologies are emerging and new concepts become challenging, project managers will also be able to react faster, create impact, and deliver projects, having learned new skills that employers demand. They will stay efficient in the competitive global marketplace. As such, the new PMI Talent Triangle is an industry-evolving skill set.
The Talent Triangle wording has evolved as follows

Ways of Working
Power Skills
Business Acumen
- Ways of Working (formerly Technical Project Management): Project managers will need to master many ways of working to deliver projects.
- Power Skills (formerly Leadership): Organization’ s talents will need to develop interpersonal skills to thrive and influence with a many stakeholders and communicate, an innovative mindset, for-purpose orientation, and empathy. Ensuring teams have these skills allows them - a critical component for making change.
- Business Acumen (formerly Strategic and Business Management): Project Managers and organization talents will need to take effective decisions in order to understand how their projects are aligned with the organization strategies and the global orientations.
For PMP, PgMP, PfMP, PMI-PBA credential holders, you are required to earn 60 PDUs in a 3-year cycle. There is no limit on the number of Education PDUs that you can earn. It means that you can earn all 60 PDUs in Education. You must earn a minimum of 8 PDUs in each of the skill areas of the PMI Talent Triangle.
For CAPM credential holders, you are required to earn 15 PDUs in a 3-year cycle. There is no limit on the number of Education PDUs that you can earn. It means that you can earn all 15 PDUs in Education. You must earn a minimum of 2 PDUs in each of the skill areas of the PMI Talent Triangle.
For PMI-ACP®, PMI-RMP®, PMI-SP credential holders, you are required to earn 30 PDUs in a 3-year cycle. There is no limit on the number of Education PDUs that you can earn. It means that you can earn all 15 PDUs in Education. You must earn a minimum of 4 PDUs in each of the skill areas of the PMI Talent Triangle.
